In a move that is guaranteed to upset those US citizens that have taken Mel Gibson's "The Passion of The Christ" far too seriously, Monty Python's film The Life of Brian is to return to US cinemas next month.
Still the United States is a diverse nation and I am sure that there is a subset of its citizenry that have a good sense of humour and will find this movie extremely funny. The Life of Brian follows a Jewish character from Nazareth who is worshipped as the Messiah then crucified by Romans. It's original released was marked by claims that it was blasphemous however the producers have always maintained that it was satirising religious films not the Christian religion. Which, of course, is precisely why it is being rereleased now.
The president of the films distribution company Rainbow, Henry Jaglom said:
We decided this is an important time to re-release this film, to provide some counter-programming to The Passion.
Trailers for the comedy would start to appear in cinemas on Good Friday, hmmmm.
